RBS announces senior appointments in South Korea

The Royal Bank of Scotland plc (RBS) announced several senior appointments in South Korea as the bank continues to strengthen its onshore coverage team to better service clients in the country.

These senior appointments include: Bryan (Bumshoo) Park as Head of International Banking, Korea; Shyong Lee as Head of Transaction Services, Korea; and Joo Hyun Oh as Head of Debt Capital Markets, Korea.

In his new role, Mr. Park will be responsible for driving the bank’s International Banking franchise in the country, with particular focus on serving local corporates, financial institutions and multinational corporates in Korea.

Mr. Park rejoins RBS from HSBC Korea, where he was Head of the Financial Institutions Group, Global Banking. Prior o HSBC, Bryan worked at RBS and ABN AMRO Korea between 2004-2009 where he had senior coverage roles covering debt capital markets and investment banking as well as managing transaction banking relationships. Mr. Park brings with him a wealth of experience in senior client relationships with both financial institutions and with Korean corporations. He also spent his early career years with major Korean corporates including Daewoo Group and Samsung C&T (Samsung Group).

Mr. Lee relocated from Tokyo to Seoul in January to drive the growth of RBS’s transaction services business in Korea, across all product offerings from cash management to trade and supply chain financing. His remit covers both origination and product management support for Korean corporates and financial institutions, as well as global corporates doing business in Korea.

Mr. Lee joined RBS in 1999, initially based in Singapore and worked on mergers and acquisition and equity capital market transactions in the South-east Asia region. In 2002, he moved to a client coverage role and focused on origination activities within the large corporate client segment in Singapore. In 2006, Mr. Lee was assigned to RBS’s Tokyo office to lead the multinational corporation (MNC) business. The role was expanded in August 2010 to include Korea, and subsequently further expanded to also include the Japan local corporate coverage team.

As Head of Debt Capital Markets for Korea, Mr. Oh will lead RBS’s debt origination business in the country, supporting full range of Korean issuers’ international funding needs. In addition, Mr. Oh is also the Branch Manager for RBS’s securities business in Korea.

Mr. Oh comes with over 20 years of experience in debt capital markets, corporate coverage and relationship management with major international firms, including Barclays Capital Asia, Deutsche Bank AG, UBS Warburg Securities, and Bankers Trust Company.
