The Reuters Group decided, as part of a growth strategy initiated in 2000, to develop a Business Transformation Programme to deliver substantial global cost savings. Shared business service centres, each served by one bank instead of many, were an integral part of the programme, and here the Regional Treasury Manager describes how this was effected in Asia, in one of the most ambitious SSC projects ever undertaken in the region. The programme was completed on schedule, after successfully overcoming many obstacles as the different countries in the region have differing regulations and requirements for cash management. The Group’s ultimate goal is for complete, global straightthrough processing and it is now working towards that end.
