What They Don’t Teach You About M&A in Business School

Business school and text books cannot provide the practical details of just how treasury should act in the critical period immediately after the completion of an M&A deal. Throw away the text book and go for the cash is the advice of this author, the veteran of many such deals in her time with Sybase. In her article she summarizes the actions needed to gain control over cash rapidly, and achieve full integration of the banking activities in the newly merged organization. She emphasizes the need for planning and preparation and provides an invaluable check list of what to do, how and when to do it and the pitfalls to avoid.
